What's an RIO? What is it used for?
The RIO is part of a simplified system to handle telecom account and numbers started in 2007 in France. Each contract is identified by its unique RIO (Carrier Identity Number). The RIO is the only requirement necessary to port a French phone number from one carrier to the other. A special number (3179) can be dialed to know the RIO of a line.
