How to set up your first SIP trunk group?

CALLR lays out an all-in-one telecom platform to efficiently handle all your communication needs.
We provide you with carefully designed tools enabling you to deploy an infrastructure precisely matching your clients' needs.

Once you have your CALLR account set up, you can create and manage your SIP trunks and IAX accounts autonomously on our platform.

SIP trunking, registrar and IAX are useful technologies if you need to initiate, process or handle a large number of calls. However, they cannot be used for emergency services.

Getting started with SIP trunking

With your CALLR account, you can manage your SIP trunks and IAX accounts. Your authorized SIP addresses are handled by "trunk groups". A common number format is used for the whole group and you can enable or disable each address and set-up IP-specific account codes if needed.

👉 If you need more information about how numbers are handled, please check Numbers at CALLR.

Trunk groups are handy to structure your outbound (SIP termination) and inbound (SIP orgination) activities. You can adjust channels and call per seconds at the account-level if needed and enforce channel limits on a trunk group basis.

Setting up your first Trunk Group

The bare minimum you need to set up a trunk group is an IP address. The IP address specified here will be able to make calls (SIP termination). You can also add additional IP addresses to your trunk group later on. Let's setup a basic trunk group:

A trunk group has several parameters you can adjust, let's do a quick overview:

Base trunk group settings:

  • Enabled: enable/disable the whole group.
  • Authorized IP addresses: all the addresses able to originate/terminate a call.
  • Prefixes are help you distinguish the traffic generated by different subgroups within your trunk. They enable you to implement a form of triage, at the root (number) level. If you need to use the same IP address on different trunk groups, you can create a prefix, so the couple IP+prefix becomes uniquely associated with one trunk group.
  • Number format: you must be consistent with the number format used within your trunk. You can find more information on the different number formatting standards here.
  • CLI: you can associate your own CLI (caller line identification) to your SIP trunk group. More information on CLI at CALLR here.

Trunk group limits & filtering:

  • Channels/CPS: by default, we allocate ten channels to each sip trunk: meaning they can process up to ten simultaneous calls. The CPS limit (Call Per Second) define how many concomitants calls you channel can initiate during a second. You can learn more about channels here.
  • Channel Limits: Define an upper limit of simultaneous phone calls that can be initiated by each trunk group.
  • Destinations Restrictions: if you need to, you can filter the destinations that can be reached using your SIP group. Our destination filtering feature follows a whitelist logic: once enabled, your SIP group will only be able to reach the destinations listed there.

Going beyond SIP trunking

CALLR goes beyond just managing your trunks and provide you with all the tools you need to take back control over your comms. Beyond pure outbound and inbound calling, we support real-time and call-tracking apps as well as SMS origination and termination through our API.

You can manage your numbers, see your analytics and check the logs straight from our platform. Feel free to explore our knowledge base to learn more about how to harness CALLR's potential.
